"As you may already know, the government has put forward a bill in the Icelandic Parliament which would change the laws about foreigners by imposing various restrictions on their lives and subjecting them to some procedures which we view not only as worrisome but which are currently considered illegal by most Icelanders. We are concerned that this bill includes some points which would violate the human rights of immigrants and their families.

The Multicultural council (Fjölmenningarráð or FR) and W.O.M.E.N. (Women Of Multicultural Ethnicity Network) have already written our comments and concerns and sent them to the Alþing. If this bill becomes law it would affect the rights of all immigrants and their relatives, including native Icelanders. Therefore we are asking all concerned individuals and groups to add their support in order to let Members of Parliament know that a lot of people are worried about the ramifications of such a restrictive law."
